All Gargantuan Episodes that have sterling commentary tracks.

Seeing as how quite a few of the online reviews for this particular DVD are quite hard to read, I shall provide you with bright (and metaphorical) insight to the wonder that is Zim.

I remember seeing the commercials for Zim on Nickelodeon and thinking that this is something worth seeing. Sadly, I didn’t secure around to watching it until Nanozim came out, and I was officially curved.

I can sum up the wonder of this series in one word: screaming.

All of the relate actors and actresses in this point to shout at the top of their lungs. And it’s a proven fact that the public likes screaming.

With shiny colors and quirky animation, this explain is definite to preserve the interest of people with the shortest attention spans. Being one of those people, I can vouch for that.

The reason I’m exasperated about this particular position…

Well, actually, there are several reasons:

1) Commentary on most of my approved episodes. Please do not miss out on this! I never laughed so hard in my life. Jhonen has to be one of the funniest and most charming cartoonists on Earth correct now. Please… please hit that button on your remote and listen to the freakin’ commentary.

2) This brings us closer to the unaired episodes!

I’ve had the privilege of seeing a few of the unaired eps and I have to say, the writing is wittier, the colors are brighter, and the acting is doomier and squishier. (Those are sure adjectives, by the contrivance) .

3) High quality versions of the all the episodes that were so horribly broadcasted on cable television.

4) Extras! Extras! And more extras!

5) At such a cheap impress, it feels like I’m stealing it.

I also hold that the second volume of this series starts with Plague of Babies and goes on through until it stops at wander For Your Lives. This pleases me greatly, as some of the best episodes were towards the demolish of the first season.

That’s all I have to say about this DVD.

The volume practically sells itself.

“Mean Streets,” simply effect, is the greatest independent film ever made. But the film is mighty more – it established the interwoven themes which Scorsese, perhaps the greatest living film-maker now that Stanley Kubrick has died, carries through virtually the entire spectrum of his work. Peep this film, and then contemplate Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas and search for how a master director developed his craft. Even so, Mean Streets is arguably Scorsese’s best film: because the style was so innovative, the rawness and violence of both the treatment of the subject matter and of the two lead performances perhaps had a greater impact than anything either the director or the actors have done since. De Niro’s beautiful performance as Johnny Boy takes on the proportions of a Greek tragic hero, though-provoking steadily toward his violent and inevitable destiny. In one fell swoop he established himself as one of the greatest actors of his generation (and would go on with Scorsese to effect his greatest triumph – Raging Bull) . Keitel, a Scorsese regular from the latter’s very first film (Who’s That Knocking At My Door), has never been better.

The Quest for Flying Rock: Four explorers quibble over the directions on a mysterious diagram, and slay up having an obstacle speed.

This series is highly recommended for children of all ages, and is one of the most imaginative and engrossing at the moment. If some of the other shows invent you want to set aside on earplugs and race out of the room, you’ll score this one a refreshing change.

Please Ms. Burgess, may we have some more?

Edited to note: The series has been renewed and there are more DVDs available since I wrote this review.

I’d say that out of the Backyardigans DVDs that are out now, this one trumps them all.

If you’re clueless, the Backyardigans is a expose about 5 preschool kids (Tyrone, a moose; Tasha, a hippo; Pablo, a penguin; Austin, a kangaroo; and Uniqua, a…..um…..recent….looking pink…..person) using their imaginations in their backyard to go to other places (the places represented are the Wild West, a beach, a jungle/desert setting, and a ample tower) . What makes this point to rise above most other kids’ shows are its addictive music and its droll moments, as well as its choreographed dance numbers, which compliment the music nicely. It’s definately edifying viewing for the kiddies.

So the four episodes represented here are:

Surf’s Up – Pablo, Tyrone and Uniqua search for a beach with awesome waves. But will Lifeguard Austin lead them to it? Music – Afro-Cuban/Surfing style

Riding the Range – Cowboy Tyrone is heading to a Wild West party, while Cowpokes Uniqua, Pablo, and Tasha are looking for a theiving bandit. Will their trails scandalous? Music – Hip-Hop

Race to the Tower of Power – The key to the world is hidden in the Tower of Power, and superheroes Captain Hammer (Austin) and Weather Woman (Uniqua) must prevent supervillians Yucky Man (Pablo) and Dr. Shrinky (Tyrone….complete with long rubber gloves!) from obtaining the key and ruling the world. Music – Latin

Quest for the Flying Rock – It’s another accelerate, as the story of Stone Step Hill states that a flying rock awaits those who undertake a dangerous quest. Pablo and Tyrone win the desert path in an attempt to beat Tasha and Uniqua, who are going through the jungle. Music – Disco

All in all, the episodes are stout viewing for the kids, and there’s enough droll undertones to maintain the adults entertained (if you grew up during the disco years, I dare you to eye “Quest for the Flying Rock” and not laugh at the dance moves they utilize) .

There’s also bonus bellow of Tasha and Tyrone dancing (to the tunes of “Shake Your Body” and “Dance By the Light of the Moon”, respectively) and previews for some of Slit Jr.’s other shows (like Dora and Diego) .

Two complaints that I have (and they don’t have to do with the shows themselves) – one, the DVDs don’t arrive with any subtitles on them. I can secure around them by using the closed-captioning function on my TV, but quiet. It’s a very minor complaint. And two, sometimes the DVDs are made very poorly, not allowing you to understanding other features. It’s not expose on this DVD, but it is on my “Cave Party” DVD, and viewing complaints from other customers, it’s imperative that Paramount catch on the ball and fix this.

Regardless, if you have minute ones, you will not be disappointed, and you’ll collect quite a bit of wear out of this DVD. My son and I have.

If you’ve seen the other Die Hard movies, you have to inspect this one.

Die Hard With a Vengeance reunites actor Bruce Willis and director John McTiernan for a second sequel to their 1988 mega-thriller Die Hard. Adapted from a non-Die Hard script titled Simon Says by screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh, this third chapter in the John McClane saga is more offbeat and unbiased a bit darker than expected.

Although it detached follows the Die Hard formula – and how could it not? – of McClane versus formidable obstacles, Die Hard 3 wisely avoids the Christmas Crises scenarios from the first two films. Gone also (although the movie never really explains why) is Bonnie Bedelia’s Holly, although she is mentioned in several scenes. Apparently McClane never adjusted to life in Los Angeles and returned to his job in the Novel York Police Department.

So when a bomb goes off at a Bonwit Teller store in Manhattan, it is providential for the Substantial Apple that McClane is a lieutenant in Unusual York’s Finest, albeit a wretched and beer-swilling lieutenant. Providential because we know that when arch-villain “Simon” (Jeremy Irons) demands that McClane participate in a potentially deadly version of the game “Simon Says,” our Everyman hero will rise to the occasion and thwart Simon’s deadly arrangement.

As in the first Die Hard film, McTiernan pairs McClane with an piquant partner. Where in the 1988 flick Willis was helped by Reginald Veljohnson (better known as Carl from Family Matters), in Die Hard with a Vengeance his charismatic and reluctant partner is played by Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Star Wars Episodes I and II) . Their “unlikely buddies” routine is energetic and witty, and Jackson plays his Harlem store owner character with a mixture of biting wit, bewilderment, and even dignity.

The Special Edition 2-disc station, like the previous two in the series, contains the movie on Disc 1 with interactive menus, anamorphic Widescreen presentation, various audio and subtitle options, and commentary by director McTiernan and screenwriter Hensleigh. Gooding, Jr. looked too passe to be Laurence Fishbourne’s son in “Boyz In The Hood”? Well, the son looked like he was in his behind 20’s and his parents looked like they were in their early 30’s so they obviously had him when they were six making him a biological miracle.

This movie is dumb tantalizing, had poorly written scenes, left too many strings untied, and there was too great talent wasted on this film. Also, the title of the movie had nothing to do with its scream. It should have been titled “Stupid Movie” or “Wasted Talent”.

I’m sorry..this movie lacked the hype I expected. I believe the director took away the talent these moral actors and actresses had to offer. But then again most of CodeBlack entertainment films are terrible in quality and production.

I am not gonna talk about “Valentino”’s cinematic merits or Ken Russell’s ones, for that matter. Previous reviewer has done a elegant safe job on that. I’ll unbiased say that I enjoy this movie and I contemplate it every so often. I devour it, because it is burly of satirical images and it DOES acquire me abet to the Hollywood of 20’s. Of course, people should not think it a actual biographical movie about RV, but rather a colossal satire with terrific costumes and extraordinary cast. I must say that the film looses its edge half away thru; in the beginning you are taken by it, then it becomes more of a toy for Ken Russell himself. As for Nureyev’s playing Valentino, I deem that was THE INGENIOUS Section OF RUSSELL’S View. Yes, it was Nureyev’s first role in cinema (first and the only one, retract the map) . Yes, he seems stiff at times, but I own this was portion of the idea: to “ham” it up a microscopic in order to heighten the effects of constructed status (Hollywood of 20’s) . Anyone who saw Nureyev on stage/in ballet/ should have no doubts about his actor skills; he did not simply dance, he ACTED. Besides, for anyone who saw movies with Rudolpho Valentino (well, I did), com’on, how mighty “ham” is that, especially from today’s perspective? .. NOW, judge about it, Valentino and Nureyev: they had the same name, they were both dancers, they were both immigrants (suffering from not ever seeing their mothers again), they were both elated, they were both surepstars, etc. I judge the similarities are uncanny! Russell took tubby advantage of them, by constucting a surrealistic situation, where you are not always positive whether you are watching Nureyev as Valentino, Nureyev as Nureyev, or even Valentino as Nureyev. That is possibly why Nureyev would want to play this role, even though he had not done any films before. ONE SCENE ESPECIALLY PROVES MY POINT ON THIS: just in the beginning we look young Valentino, who lived in NY then, is supposedly giving tango lessons to the mountainous Nijinsky, who was also in NY at the same time with his troop (”Russian Seasons Ballet”) . No such encounter ever happened in the dependable life, I am distinct (Valentino was young and lovely shrimp time jiggalo…Nijinksy’s each travel was monitored by Sergey Diagilev, troop’s director and Nijinsky’s pathologically jealous lover… Diagilev would have never allowed Nijinsky to watch a handsome/ gay/Italian for private lessons or any such thing) . So, how fanastic was it of Russell, to do two of the 20 century’s greatest ballet dancers together in a marvellous tango? I impartial loved it: the concept itself and the scene! Anyway, if you gawk this movie, you’ll search for it for yourselves. This movie is well-worth watching repeatedly.

Yet the film is not without its flaws.Rudolph Nureyev in his first acting role displays charm,grace and sex appeal-but he is sometimes stiff and lacks emotional depth.The tremendous actress Alla Nazimova is savaged (in a very laughable performance by Leslie Caron) as a pretentious and vain phony.Natasha Rambova(a very comely Michelle Phillips) is depicted as a shrill,grasping shrew.The screenplay as written by Ken Russell and his co-scenarist sounds unduely influenced by films of the early 1930’s(though this does give the film atmosphere,you sometimes feel as if you were watching an R-rated Lloyd Bacon characterize) . It appears Gurinder Chadha is going to suffer for a while from the “Bend It” problem: every movie she makes, people are going to tsk-tsk and say “it’s not as fine as ‘Bend It Like Beckham.’” Well, honestly,how are you going to top that? It’s too unpleasant that many people aren’t going to allow ‘Bride and Prejudice’ to stand on its maintain merits. That includes most mainstream reviewers who have generally been lukewarm about it. For many people though, ‘Bride’ will be an introduction to the Bollywood Musical genre and – for that reason alone – it’s a can’t miss. Far from being lukewarm, I was in stiches throughout most of the movie.

In ‘Bride,’ you pick suitable away why Aishwarya Rai has transfixed a nation. Fans of ‘Bend It’ will trace that Anupam Kher, as Rai’s dad ‘Mr. Bakshi,’ was Jess’ dad ‘Mr. Bharma’ in ‘Beckham.’ This is one classy actor and a regal presence on the cover.

For any fan of film, this is one of the most impressive, reasonably priced box sets you could ever hope to acquire. Contained within are all the collaborations between manic, visionary German director Werner Herzog and his crazed, international movie star muse Klaus Kinski. Both men have had prolific careers, yet nothing they have done separately has achieved the splendor of their serene efforts together. Indeed, in his review of “Woyzeck”, Roger Ebert says,

“It is almost impossible to imagine Kinski without Herzog; consider that this `unforgettable’ actor made more than 170 films for other directors–and we can hardly remember a one.”

Wherever their individual paths took them, this box place stands as a monument to the magic between them. Klaus Kinski and Werner Herzog together created films of fabulous imagery, considerable depth, and possessed artistry of the highest caliber. Included in this box plot are the five films they did together: “Aguirre”, “Nosferatu”, “Woyzeck”, “Fitcarraldo”, and “Cobra Verde”. Also included is one of the most absorbing documentaries about filmmakers and filmmaking ever, “My Best Fiend”, Herzog’s love/hate letter about his relationship with the volatile actor. Each work is modern in scope, vision, theme and performance. If the documentary explains why no director other than Herzog worked with Kinski more than once, their five films together amply display why Kinski never lacked for work. His on-screen presence is unparalleled and his performances perfectly measured for each role. The DVD status is a repackaging of their prior individual releases, containing the same extras. All films are presented in their fresh aspect ratio.

In summing up the sheer value of this place, one should deem the sublime achieve of “My Best Fiend”. In chronicling his relationship with Kinski, Herzog inadvertently shows how he was equally a figure who straddled the line between genius and madman during their productions. Although they gave each other their worst, they also brought out the best in the other. It is as palpable a symbiotic relationship as you will ever scrutinize between two human beings, and it can be witnessed on every frame of these five films. As Herzog said to Roger Ebert when describing his first encounter with Kinski as a youth,

“At that moment I knew it was my destiny to perform films, and his to act in them.”’

This place is a tribute to that revelation, and a must for anyone who savors the artistry of filmmaking.

Anchor Bay have rereleased this collection (originally released in 2002 and later withdrawn) for a dinky time. If you have any interest in it, you should grab it before it goes. The folks at Anchor Bay (bless ‘em) have one major fault: they let some of their most racy titles (Ipcress File, Sleuth, Wicker Man LE) go out of print.

At least three of the Herzog-Kinski collaborations are must-have masterpieces: Aguirre, Nosferatu, and Fitzcarraldo. Since you can regain the whole collection for the same sign as those three films individually, you’d be laughable not to. My Best Fiend comes off well as a sort of “extra” to the whole collection.

As other reviewers have said, the transfers and extras do the films justice. I have only 3 minor complaints: (1) By buying the collection, you don’t win the English-language version of Nosferatu. I lift the German version, but I’m also a completist, so it annoys me. (2) For some reason, Herzog didn’t supply commentary for Woyzek. Since he did for the other four features, this is a glaring omission. (3) Why didn’t Anchor Bay invest in adding Les Blank’s docu Burden of Dreams (about the making of Fitzcarraldo)? It would have made a fantastic extra for this region and could have fit alongside My Best Fiend.

I am one of those people who have seen so many movies, and read so many books that I can usually figure out a situation line quite early on in any film. But this movie has so many novel twists, I was literally “on the edge of my seat” the first time I saw it. It’s a wild lag as we view Gary Oldman self-destruct as the improper, womanizing cop on the base side of the mob. Lena Olin’s performance as the Russian assassin, is, simply, priceless. This is one of the very best “action” movies I’ve seen. I recommend it to Oldman fans, “cop ‘n gangster” fans, or anybody who honest likes a really edifying movie! And don’t miss Roy

Romeo is Bleeding could have been a quintessential novel film noir classic. The state line was thrilling, and Lena Olin was particularly mysterious and devious as the Russian hitwoman. Needless to say, Gary Oldman’s performance was stellar as the duplicitous cop. However, the DVD version cuts a very crucial scene. I saw this movie at the theatre when it was released. There is a scene in which Gary Oldman shoots Lena Olin in the arm before putting her in handcuffs; instead of going to a hospital, they accept into a fight. While he’s driving, she’s in the support seat of the car attacking him with the only weapons available to her at the time–her legs. Eventually Gary Oldman crashes his car, and Lena Olin runs away from him (handcuffed, no less),then, rather than go to a hospital, she retreats to her apartment where she cuts off her maintain arm with a power saw. This scene was brutally evil, but it augmented the unsuitable dynamic of Lena Olin’s character. More importanly, it explained how she became armless. This was the kind of scene that set the viewer on the edge of his seat anxiously awaiting the unfolding of the next event. Cutting that particular scene caused major incongruity because when Gary Oldman and Lena Olin fracture the car, she fights with him and then runs away, hands cuffed tedious her wait on, and at that point, the movie immediately cuts to a scene in which her arm is missing, with nothing in between–no explanation for the missing arm. Anyone who hasn’t seen the movie before is going to be confused. The viewer will be left wondering what the heck happened to her arm. This will leave you very frustrated because for the remainder of the film you’ll be wondering how she became an armless hitwoman. That was one scene that should not have ended up on the cutting floor. The film editors made a large error in judgment.
